Dropcam Pro establishes new benchmark for image quality and ease of use
Ambarella, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMBA), a leading developer of low-power, HD video compression and image processing semiconductors, today announced that Dropcam, maker of the leading Wi-Fi video monitoring camera and cloud service, has chosen Ambarella to supply its HD camera SoC solution for the newly released Dropcam Pro.
Dropcam Pro delivers excellent video performance, premium audio quality, better wireless connectivity and fast mobile setup. Viewing is enhanced with a 130-degree field of view, and an innovative pinch-to-zoom feature allows users to zoom up to 8x on live video while preserving image detail. Activity recognition is a new feature that recognizes motion patterns in the video stream and provides customized user alerts.
Dropcam Pro leverages Ambarella’s HD camera SoC to provide industry-leading compression and outstanding low-light imaging. Dropcam Pro provides 2x the video quality of the previous model during the day, and 7x better performance in low-light conditions. Ambarella’s solution also enabled Dropcam to develop a camera that provides pristine HD video quality even over the limited bandwidth connection typical of a home environment.
“With Dropcam Pro, we are shaping the future of home monitoring,” said Greg Duffy, CEO and co-founder, Dropcam. “Our engineers have worked closely with Ambarella since we began designing the Dropcam product line. Together we are delivering cameras with the highest video quality in a compact, low power design.”
“We are thrilled that Dropcam chose Ambarella as their partner for Dropcam Pro,” said Fermi Wang, CEO of Ambarella. “Dropcam Pro’s unique blend of exceptional video quality, ease of use, and connectivity options makes it the ideal home security camera and hub for the emerging connected home.”
