Automotive safety applications -- from collision avoidance systems to lane departure warnings -- are only as good as the data they can gather and process quickly. Low-quality data equals low-quality performance. Ambarella uses advanced image processing and computer vision algorithms to produce superior results, improving the performance of common ADAS features while enhancing the driver's field of view. Our technology improves dynamic range in high-contrast scenes and delivers advanced low-light processing in dark environments, resulting in significantly fewer false-positives and false-negatives during detection tasks under challenging conditions.

In the past, strict automotive standards for reliability led to lower standards for video quality and performance. Ambarella is working to change that. Our video technologies are uncompromising, combining broadcast-quality image processing with automotive-grade reliability. With Ambarella technology on board, dash cameras capture sharper detail, event recorders gather more effective data for analysis, and connected cars stream the most critical evidence to the cloud in the event of an emergency. Ambarella's automotive solutions cover the following use cases:

  • 360-Degree Surround View. Our recordable four-channel HD video provides drivers with unobstructed, distortion-free views of the vehicle from every side, reducing the risk of accidents.
  • E-mirrors. Replacing a vehicle's side mirrors with viewing cameras is a demanding task. These cameras must provide latency-free, reliable video that consistently outperforms the mirrors they replace. Ambarella viewing cameras enhance the visibility of traffic, eliminate common blindspots, reduce glare from bright headlights via sophisticated high dynamic-range processing, and improve fuel economy by reducing drag.
  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Effective sensor data processing plays a fundamental role in many adaptive systems including pedestrian detection, collision avoidance, driver alerts, and more.
  • Drive Recording. When the primary goal is simply to capture the highest-quality video -- whether to test vehicle performance, to gather critical evidence, or purely for the enjoyment of the road -- Ambarella is an established leader in the field. Ambarella A7LA HD Automotive Camera SoC

A7L-A

A7LA enables full 1080p30 HD single- and dual-view camera configurations, supporting video recording through the front windshield as well as through the rear window or inside the vehicle. The A7LA’s combination of Wide Dynamic Range (WDR), smart auto-exposure, and full-resolution oversampling provide superior image quality, allowing the capture of license plates and other details, even in low-light conditions. A7LA SoCs include a high-speed, 700MHz ARM CPU to support advanced analytics algorithms including a Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS).

Ambarella A7LA MotorVu™ Super HD Reference Kit

The Ambarella A7LA MotorVu™ Super HD Reference Kit enables fast development of A7LA-based automotive cameras. The A7LA’s combination of Wide Dynamic Range (WDR), smart auto exposure, and full-resolution over-sampling provide excellent image quality allowing the capture of license plates and other details, even in low light conditions. MotorVu™ reference design has a rich feature set, including Super HD and Full HD video recording, WiFi connectivity to iOs and Android smartphone and Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS).

Ambarella MotorVu™ 360 Reference Design

The Ambarella MotorVu™ 360 Reference Design combines 360° video surround viewing with full HD recording for the next generation of automotive camera systems. Enabled by the new B5 family of receiver/transmitter companion chips, the 360 reference design supports transmission of video data across low-cost, flexible cables with low latency. The B5 chips can also be used in dual-channel configurations for front- and rear-view automotive camera applications.

MotorVu™ 360's main processor is the Ambarella A9 SoC, which performs image processing, surround view generation and H.264 compression with exceptional quality. The reference design includes a full Software Development Kit (SDK) with complete camera recording applications and support for a wide range of CMOS sensors.

Ambarella A12A Advanced HD Automotive Camera SoC

A12A

The A12A SoC family enables single-channel Quad HD (4MP, 1440p) at 30fps, Full 1080p HD at up to 60 fps, and dual-channel Quad HD, providing support for video recording through the front windshield as well as through the rear window or inside the vehicle.

The A12A’s combination of advanced image processing, High Dynamic Range (HDR), 3D noise filtering, smart auto-exposure, and full-resolution oversampling provide superior image quality, allowing the capture of license plates and other key details, even in low light conditions. The increased resolution allows a wider field of view to be captured, while still maintaining a high level of detail throughout the image.

Ambarella A9AQ + B6 Automotive Multi-Camera Electronic-Mirror and Surround View SoCs

A9AQ

The Ambarella A9AQ is an AEC-Q100-qualified, 4K Ultra HD single-chip solution for single- or multi-camera electronic mirror, surround view, and video recording systems.

The automotive-qualified A9AQ's multi-exposure HDR processing provides superior visibility even in low light or high contrast scenes, while its LED flicker mitigation dramatically reduces artifacts introduced by LED headlights and traffic signs. A9AQ can simultaneously drive video to up to three in-car displays for rear, left side and right side electronic mirror applications. The B6 family of 4K Ultra HD capable serializer/deserializer (SERDES) companion chips enable high-performance video camera applications based on the A9AQ SoC.
